Our reporter shows before and after pictures it is quite impressive!
Imagine: you are in your late thirties or early forties and you get out of bed to brush your teeth in the morning. When you look in the mirror, you are horrified. “Is this a bald spot forming on the back of my head?!” You reach out to touch him carefully. It may be your imagination, but your hair looks thinner there. Forgetting your foaming toothbrush, you push back your bangs. Somehow your hairline seems further back than it was before.
It is a horror story dreaded by many men and even some women. Nobody wants to see a receding hairline, a reduction in luscious locks, or a growing empty patch on the top of the head. That’s why there are so many studies on what can prevent and treat baldness, and why the wig industry has thrived during the pandemic. Fortunately, there are solutions that actually work!
In fact, our Japanese-speaking reporter Come on Hatori was afraid of what male pattern baldness would do to his hair, and so for Christmas 2019, he treated himself to medical treatment to restore it to its former glory. Go’s hair was steadily thinning and his hairline was receding, so he went to Shonan Beauty Clinic in Shinjuku and paid just under 100,000 yen (US$874.56) to receive topical treatments and orals to see if it would help her hair look and feel better. After six months, he noticed a remarkable improvement!
▼ Progress over six months
The specialists at Shonan Beauty Clinic recommend continuation of treatment for two years, so Go took the medicine diligently and used this spray the whole time. How has her hair changed in the past two years? We’ll take a look.
Here is a front view, with December 2019 on the left and December 2021 on the left. At first glance, it doesn’t seem to have changed much, and it may be harder to tell the difference between the hairline and the hair down in the front. But looking closely, looks like her hair is thicker than before. There is also a major difference between her eyebrows; after two years they look fuller. (Note that in the original 2019 photo, Go had his hair tied back, so he looks thinner than he probably was.)

Now let’s take a look with her hair pushed back by a headband. The volume difference is evident here, especially on the top of his head. The hairline also looks a bit lower. The hair on the sides of her head, the baby hair that frames her face, looks much thicker and more densely grown.
It’s clear from the sides too. The M-shape of her hairline has softened a bit and her sideburns are much longer and thicker than before.
A view from the top of the head shows a better view of the hairline. His widow’s peak appears much less prominent than two years ago.
Overall, her hair looks much thicker and the hairline has filled out nicely! Go also reports that the hair on her head isn’t the only hair that has seen a marked improvement. His body hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and even the invisible peach fuzz all over his body have become much thicker than before, so he almost feels like a completely different person.
▼ Progression every six months over the last two years
Go is worried that her hairline may be receding a bit, especially on her forehead, compared to six months or a year after starting treatments. However, his doctors didn’t notice anything about it, so maybe it’s his imagination. But even so, Go is extremely pleased with the improvement and plans to continue taking the treatments for at least another six months. Let’s hope he’s as happy with the results of his treatments as Seiji was with the results of his hair transplant!
